IMMEDIATE MEASURES


Following measures can be done on emergancy basis to relief pain and prevent any blister formations.

Salty Water

By immediately placing the burnt part into a saturated solution of table salt and water, pain is relieved. This also prevents any blister formation.

Ice Cold Water

This can be done as an immediate aid for superficial burns. Just immerse the burnt part in to ice cold water; this will relief the pain and limit the skin damage. In most of the superficial cases, when after sometime` the burnt part is removed, there is no pain or blister formation. If ice cold water is not available, ice can be applied directly but with caution, a prolonged exposure may risk frostbites.

Tooth Paste

Yes, the tooth paste also serves to relief the pain from minor burns. In case there is only minor burn without any skin tissue loss, an immediate application of tooth paste over the affected area relieves pain and prevents any blister formation. This is an easily available and cheap home remedy for burns.

Baking Soda

This is probably the most documented and widely used home remedy for burns. Just add some baking soda to water to make a saturated solution and put the burnt part in that water. There will be an immediate relief from pain and itching. Furthermore, in almost every case it prevents any blister formation.

Cucumber Juice or Aloe Vera Gel

For minor burns, an instant application of cucumber juice or Aloe gel can be helpful to release pain and discomfort. If Aloe gel is not available, fresh lump can be used or you can even cut a leaf from middle to apply the inner of the leaf directly to the wound. Just rub gently and it will relief a lot.

Turmeric paste

A fresh paste of turmeric in water can be applied to prevent any blister formations.

MEASURES TO TREAT BURN LESIONS


These are the time tested home remedies used from centuries to treat burn wounds, prevent further progression and to speed up healing.

Black Lentils with Vaseline

This is a very effective natural treatment for burns that can be truly substituted for medical treatments (provided the burns are not severe). Burn some black lentils in a pot, by slowly heating them on low flame till it is completely converted into powder form. Sieve this to remove any coarse particles. Blend this powder with Vaseline and keep in an airtight jar. Now apply this combination on burnt areas multiple times a day. The lesion will close within days without leaving any scar.

Tamarind

Tamarind is a common herb, whose pods and seeds are used frequently used in Asian cuisine while its leaves and bark are traditionally used for the treatment of burns. There are different recipes, like;
  • Burn some leaves in a pot over low heat. Now grind these burnt leaves to fine powder and sieve to remove any gritty particles. Add some massage oil, like almond oil or sesame oil to make a thick consistency. Apply over the burnt part. The burn gets healed with in days without leaving any marks.
  • Burn the dried bark of the tree and mix it with coconut oil to use as a poultice on the lesions. This will relief the pain very rapidly. Apply many times a day to heal the burned skin without any marks.

Myrrh

Myrrh is collected from the stems of bushy shrubs found growing in southern Arabia and Somalia. Scientific tests have shown myrrh to possess significant antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. In Arabian countries, it has been used for the treatment of burns from ancient times. To burns, soak myrrh in a small amount of water. It is put on burns to reduce scars and to help in quickly healing wounds as well as to remove warts.

Turmeric

Turmeric is a renowned curry powder frequently used as a spice in Middle Eastern and Asian countries, especially on the Indian subcontinent. For centuries it has been utilized in the treatment of burns, boils, insect bites, cuts and wounds. Recent studies have confirmed its anti inflammatory and antibacterial activities thus its application on burns prevent any secondary infection, progression of wound and speed up healing.

Pomegranate Rind

Powdered pomegranate peelings are used on burns and to treat infection on external cuts and wounds.
