Tips and recipes to treat dull and damaged hair using natural ingredients and give bounce and shine to dry hair.

You may have dry hairs as a result of your genetic make up but there may be chances that your hairs become dry due to lack of proper haircare, abuse of chemicals or electrical appliances. Similarly hair may get dry as a result of over exposure to bad environment, extreme of temperatures or sun rays. In case of dry hairs, the outer layer of hair strands loose its moisture and become roughed up, consequently they do not reflect light bas they should and you get hairs that not only feel dry but also look dry. The hair shafts break easily and lose it's bounce and shine.

Tips to Manage Dry Hairs.

Just few simple steps can help you to make your hairs more manageable, defeat the dryness and repair the damage caused by dryness.

Be Selective about Shampoo;

Look for a shampoo rich in conditioners like aloe, glycerin, honey or natural oils. These are good moisturizers and help to restore the natural moisture of hair which in turn look less dry and flying away. Avoid additional chemicals that may combine your shampoo or conditioner, these may aggravate the damage and promote dry hairs and split ends.

Do not Forget Conditioner;

Always use a good conditioner to make your manes manageable and give them a shiny silky look. If you do not want a synthetic conditioner or a commercial product go for a homemade natural conditioner. These really work well for dry hair.

Shampoo Wisely;

Too much washing can promote dryness on your scalp and hair just as the case with your body. Try to cut short your washing period. Unless you have oil on your hair or they are really badly dirty, apply shampoo just once per washing. After shampooing rinse thoroughly to re move any chemical residues.

Skip Blow Dryer;

Let your locks dry naturally, do not use electric appliances as they enhance the damage caused by dryness. After shampooing gently use a towel to pat them dry or if required squeeze very softly and let them dry naturally. If a blow dryer try to use following measures to prevent any hair damage;
  • Set the blower at a low setting,
  • Hold the dryer at least six inches away from your hair.
  • Try to use a thermal styling conditioner prior to using blow dryer.

Hot Oil Treatments;

Natural oils are a good way to moisturize dry hair and repair their damage. These help to moisturize and condition hair making them more manageable and give them a brilliant shine and bounce. You can use any of the good massage oil of your choice like almond, olive, coconut oil, jojoba oil or mustard oil. If possible add some sandalwood oil, lavender and bay oil. Warm the mixture and apply to your scalp and hair. Wrap your hair in a towel and wait for half an hour or more. Now shampoo twice and rinse well.

Protect from Sun;

Sun rays are your real enemy, they damage any left over moisture of your hair and make them worse. Try to stay away from direct sunlight however if exposure is expected, cover your hairs with any type of head cover to protect hair from sunrays. You can also get sun screen containing hair styling products that claim to provide protection against UV rays damage.

Trim Your Hair Regularly;

Dry hairs are more prone to split ends and you know once you get split ends the only treatment is to cut them away. If you get lazy, these will further damage your hair along their lengths and now you need to trim hair at an upper level. So the best way is to trim them regularly. This also prevents a dirty and unprotected look.

Stay Away from Hair Sprays and Dyes;

These chemical based synthetic hair products are more likely to aggravate hair dryness, so try to avoid them unless they are inevitable.

Protect from Swimming Damage;

The chlorinated water of swimming pools can be a real threat for dry hair. Before going for a swimming try;
  • Use a conditioner on your hair.
  • Wet your hair with clear water, it will absorb less chlorine.
  • Put a swimming cap.
Afterwards, thoroughly rinse pool water and perspiration immediately, and then wash as usual.
