Here is a basic guideline for routine skin care. This will help you to find out how to keep your skin healthy and radiant for today and for many years to come. This includes,

  • Body Cleansing
  • Regular Moisturizing
  • Sunscreen with some good sunscreen SPF
  • Drinking lots of water
  • Regularly Excersicing
  • Avoid Smoking
BODY CLEANSING

This is an essential step in skin care. By proper cleansing you not only remove germs and other impurities from your skin but also give it a natural glow and healthy look. A variety of cleansing milk or cleansing lotion are easily available over the counter or alternatively you can use any natural body cleanser for cleansing your body. It is best to cleanse your skin twice a day, a rejuvenating shower in the morning can lift your spirits and help you to start your day off right, while a relaxing bath at night can help you to wind down and relax before bed. However, if you have a dry skin type, it is better to cut short shower to once a day.
There are a few points to be kept in mind about cleansing, that is;
  • Always use lukewarm water in winters and slightly cold in summers. Never use too hot or too cold water for bathing. Hot water washes away oil from the skin making it dry.
  • Cut short your bathing time to 15 minutes.
  • Donot use strong soaps, these are harsh for the skin, strip away natural oils leaving behind dry itching skin.
  • After washing or bathing, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on the skin. Immediately moisturize your skin with an oil or cream.
MOISTURIZE REGULARLY
Moisturizers not only help to restore the natural moisture of skin by making a barrier over skin surface but also slowly release some water into the skin surface. Dry skin not only gives a bad look but also develops wrinkles earlier. The choice of moisturizer and the frequency of application depends upon the type of skin, age, climate and any specific skin condition like eczema, acne etc

SUN SCREEN

This has also a key role in skin care. This not only prevents skin aging but also has a very protective role in many skin diseases as well. Although sun rays are good for us in many ways but only in limited amount. Unchecked exposure to the sun rays is very harmful because of the invisible portion of sun rays that is the UV Rays. These not only damage the skin, causing deep wrinkles, dry, rough skin, liver spots, but also make it vulnerable to more serious disorders, such as noncancerous (benign) and cancerous (malignant) skin tumors. You can also use moisturizer with sunscreen.

DRINK LOTS OF WATER

Water is a very essential part of yor skin care. It keeps your skin hydrated, moisturized and helps to cleanse away toxins. It is equally important for skin and internal organs because as it circulates in the body, it takes away all impurities and toxins with it leaving behind healthy and glowing skin. Normally eight glasses of water are recommended per day. But this is not an absoloute figure, the requirement varies according to age, weight, climate and general body conditions. In general more water intake is required in hot climates, when water loss is aggrevated with sweating. In such cases, body salts are also lost so some sort of beverages are recommended along with plain water.

EXERCISE REGULARLY

Most of us know the benefits of exercise like losing weight, trimming body and reducing fats but few people know the effects of exercise on skin. "It's no secret that exercise has important benefits for the entire body. But what many people don't realize is that our skin is the largest organ of our body, and thus, the benefits can be enormous," says Audrey Kunin, MD, a Kansas City, Mo., dermatologist and author of The DERMAdoctor Skinstruction Manual. Exercise benefits our skin in a number of ways,
  • As circulation to the skin is increased, it improves oxygen and nutrients supply to the skin.
  • Most aerobic exercise, such as walking or bicycling, also offer a "cleansing" effect on skin. This helps remove toxins that assault the skin --like cigarette smoke, air pollution, even chemicals commonly found in grooming products such as hair spray, deodorant, and shower gels.If water intake is increased with exercise it will further speed up the cleansing of harmful toxins from skin.
  • It does has an anti-aging effect on our skin. How? It is not clearly understood, probably by influencing the natural production of collagen, a kind of connective tissue that plumps your skin and gives your face the bloom of youth.
  • Exercise decreases the production of Male type hormones that is DHEA and DHT by adrenal glands, this has a drammatic effect on acne prone skin.In long run, acne is better controlled, and if there is an occasional breakouts they are definitely less severe, and clear quicker and easier.

NO MORE SMOKING

Every one knows what smoking does with internal organs but what about it's external effects. Few people know that smoking not only destroyes the lungs but also have deteriorating effects on skin. Smoking dehydrates and deprives the skin of oxygen and basic nutrients thus causing premature aging, dry skin, a dull looking appearance, and other health problems. A smoker's face is Lines or wrinkles on the face, particularly radiating at right angles from the upper and lower lips or corners of the eyes, deep lines on the cheeks or numerous shallow lines on the cheeks and lower jaw. A subtle gauntness of the features, with prominence of the underlying bony contours. Many people do not bother what their inside look like but most of us are concerned about how we look in the mirror? Seeing dull face with multiples lines just because of smoking may force some people to think twicebefore lighting a cigarette.
