Curing Diaper rash
Natural ways for curing diaper rash with common household items.

Corn Starch Powder

Probably the most popular home remedy for diaper rash is Cornstarch. This is one of the oldest remedies that have been used all over the world and it really works almost in all cases. (Provided how diligently and consistently it is performed). Just wash the baby with warm running water and soap, tap dry and apply some corn starch to the bottom of the baby. Also sprinkle some powder over the inner side of the diaper. This will act as a barrier and keep the baby dry. Every time you change the diaper repeat the procedure and the rash will be gone within a day or two.

Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly

This is another universal remedy for baby diaper rash. The benefits are its easy to apply, it's cheap and it's wonderful.
The moment you notice any slightest sign of nappy rash on the bottom of your baby, start applying a thick layer of Vaseline all over the bottom. This acts as a diaper rash ointment and makes a thick protective coating over the skin that helps by:
  • Allowing the rash to heal.
  • Guarding any further damage due to irritation with diaper.
Repeat every two hourly or whenever you change the baby diaper (see what comes first). By the third or fourth change a small rash will be cured while larger and more serious once start to heal.

Baking Soda

Baking Soda is a common kitchen item all over the world. Besides using in baking, it is also one of the cheap and effective home cures for your baby's diaper rash. All you have to do is to add two tablespoons of baking soad to already warm water and use this water to wash the baby. You can also use this water to give a sitz bath for ten to fifteen minutes.

Vinegar and Water Solution

Vinegar, another very common household article, is the natural cure for most human diseases more than any other traditional remedy. How is it possible that vinegar stays behind in this dilemma?
A natural remedy for diaper rash is to make a diluted solution of vinegar and use it to wash the bottom part of baby. Again you can use this water for sitz bathes and the rash will cure within 24 hours.

Natural Oils

These are also one of the best diaper rash remedies. Again the purpose of application is to make a barrier between skin and diaper to protect any further damage by direct contact and allowing the lesion to cure. For this purpose olive oil, sweet almond oil, sesame oil or mustard oil can be used. You can use some vegetable oil as well. Wash your baby, pat her dry, and apply any of these oils generously all over her bottom. Now put the diaper again. In most cases, a mild rash is gone by the next time the diaper is changed while severe diaper rashes take some time to heal.

Sitz Baths

A very easy and practical cure for diaper rash is to give your baby sitz bath for at least ten minutes just once or twice a day depending upon the severity of dermatitis. All you have to do is to put some warm water into baby's bath tub, and put one of the followings;
  • Vinegar; to make a diluted solution. This is diaper rash quick cures.
  • Table Salt; add enough salt to make water whitish once and than settles down.
  • Oatmeal; add about one table spoon to the whole water. It helps to heal quickly.
  • Baking Soda; about two tablespoons. Repeat twice a day.
  • Plain Water; just plain water also works, if other precautionary measures are used carefully (like frequent change, keeping dry and so forth)
