How to Cure Brittle Nails
What can be done to restore moisture to your nails and keep them healthy and strong? Here are simple tips to overcome the problem;
Moisturize Them Regularly
Massage a good moisturizer or massage cream into your nails and cuticles multiple times a day particularly after using a soap or detergent.
For seriously affected nails you can try this;
- Immerse your fingertips in one-half cup of warmed olive oil and soak for 15 to 30 minutes.
- As an alternative to olive oil, break open three or four bath-oil capsules and empty their contents into one-half cup of warm water. Soak your fingertips in the diluted bath oil for five minutes.
Bed Time Treat
Before going to bed, coat your nails and hands with a thick layer of petroleum jelly. Then slip on a pair of white cotton gloves to protect your hands overnight. You’ll love the way this treatment makes your nails look.
For a Quick Fix To salvage a split or broken nails, apply a very small amount of nail glue to the tear. Reinforce the tear by covering it with a small piece of tissue from a tea bag. Let the glue dry completely, and then use a fine buffer to even out the nail surface. (Be sure to leave the tissue in place.) Finally, apply a top coat over the tissue.
Tips to Deal With Brittle Nails
- Do not wear your nails longer than the tips of your fingers., these are less likely to break.
- File them regularly, preferable two to three times a week.
- Apply a nail strengthener on regular basis. This helps to hold cell layers together.
- Go for a weekly exfoliation as you do for hands and fingers.
